Give My Regards to Broadway

Summer Pro Camp is here!  I was cast as Babs in the musical Give My Regards to Broadway.  Basically, Babs was a gangster who eventually gave up a life of crime to pursue a career in dancing in a chorus line after her attempt to capture a stool pigeon for the mob boss went awry.  It was a blast.  I got to sing, dance, and had some really funny lines.  The cast celebrated my birthday, too, since I was at camp all day that day.

Another Dance Recital I Will Miss

Well, it is happening again.  My dance teacher has scheduled the recital on the same night as the PASA performance.  I can’t miss it.  Even though I was supposed to have a solo in the recital, my parts in the musical theatre and acting scenes are a lot bigger.  Besides, acting is my first love.  Mom is very upset.  She is going to take everyone in my dance class out to ice cream.

Filming on Last Words!

We are done filming. What a great experience. Vaughn even gave me an action. A few of my friends also got to be in the film, like Anna Anderson–she was the teacher in the schoolhouse scene. I actually got to be in it two places–one in that scene as the girl who runs across the playground and then in the funeral scene. My mom, dad, brother, and two sisters were part of the funeral procession, too, although they did not walk together. My mom’s husband in the movie looked a little like my Uncle Andrew!

My First Film

Mom went to a party at PASA last night while I was at a friend’s house.  This morning she told me that Vaughn told her that they wanted me to be in their new movie which is shooting at the end of this month!  I am so excited!

I don’t know a lot about the scene yet, but it is going to be in a schoolhouse or something.  Anyway, I am so happy that Paul and Vaughn think I am ready and that my first film experience will be with them.

Missing My Dance Recital :(

Well, it looks like I am going to have to miss my dance recital.  It is going to be on the same night as the PASA performance, and because of the time, I can’t do both.  I am bummed about the whole thing.  We already have our costumes and everything.  Miss Megan absolutely cannot change the time.  It’s too bad, though, because I am a key person in a lift, so they will have to re-do that portion of the dance.

I am in a lot of the scenes over at PASA since I attend all day there on Tuesdays, so it was a no brainer which one would miss out.  I will still get to dance, too, since I am now taking Dance for Musical Theatre and we are doing a couple of numbers with that class.

A Stroke of Inconvenience

Mom took me to see Vaughn’s new play yesterday and it was awesome!  I laughed so hard.  My favorite part was the end.  I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, but it really took me by surprise.

We stayed around afterwards and talked to the performers on the set, which was also fun.

Musical Theatre Summer Intensive

This summer was the first time I tried the Musical Theatre intensive.  Normally, I stick to acting on camera, since that it what I want to do mainly.  But my mom thought it would be fun for me, so she let me do both this time.

It was a lot of fun.  I think I really surprised Vaughn that I could actually sing.  Hopefully, I will be able to take some more classes in the Fall like this.

Memorizing Monologues

Memorizing monologues is deceptively easy.  But it is really important to get your lines down so you can start working on the emotional stuff.

When Vaughn worked individually with me on Tuesday, I kept having to ask for my line.  It kind of disrupted the flow.  I think I still got some good work done, though.

The piece that I am putting together has a lot of emotion in it.  It starts out with shock, then moves to acting grown-up, then it just explodes.  The last part brings in sadness, even to the point of grief.  It will be a real growth experience for me as an actress to get the whole thing.

But first, I have to learn my lines!

New Dramatic Monologue

I started my new monologue in acting on camera today.  It is taken from Dakota Fanning’s lines in Dreamer.  Her character is Cale Crane, a girl who falls in love with a broken down racehorse who eventually brings her family back together.  We had to combine two scenes in which Sonador, the horse, is unintentionally sold at a claimer’s race.  Very moving.  I’ll get some video up here as soon as we shoot.

Tuesday’s acting class was awesome!  We are working monologues and mine is pretty funny.  The thing is, I have to keep a straight face, which is sometimes very hard to do!

My assignment this week is to transcribe a dramatic monologue by Dakota Fanning’s character in the movie Dreamer.  So my mom rented it from Netflix.
